As is the case for all Jeff Shaara novels, this book is exceptionally well researched, and written. It describes the end of the war in Europe from the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge to the final denouement. It follows the usual Shaara format of following a number of participants in order to share their differing perceptions of the same events, in this case US Private Benson, Albert Speer, generals Eisenhower, Patton, Von Rundstadt. While the book provides tactical and strategic insights that I have not read in other histories and historical novels, perhaps the most impactful are the descriptions of the conditions under which the American troops fought during the Battle of the Bulge, and the vivid description of the liberation of the first of the concentration camps.An epilogue informs us of the subsequent histories of the principal characters, which is enlightening. Jeff Shaara has the capability of making me feel as though I am slogging through the snow and the mud in the midst of the Argonne forest, freezing my feet with wet socks and boots. I find him to be an excellent author capable of giving the reader a three-dimensional view of the scene. My dad fought in the Pacific during WWII so the European theater was something I did not know much about until, "No Less Than Victory". I highly recommend it.
